I do not have any plastic residue in my barrels after shooting my BP shotgun loads. I use Claybuster red wads and about x.xcc of FFg so they should be getting plenty hot.

WEBSep 3, 2017 · Shotgun knock down targets are completely different. I have been using fiber and card wads in my Black Powder shotgun loads for many years now. Somebody lengthened the forcing cones in my old Stevens hammer double before I bought it. If the wads are tipping or not, my old Stevens knocks down everything I point it at.

WEBJul 22, 2013 · Claybuister replacement wad is the CB1100-12 wad. All these wads are of the Winchester AA design. Each number is progressively longer in the cushion section, which takes up additional room in the hull, and makes it easy to adjust the wad height to suit the particular Black Powder load you are wanting to load.

When using fiber wad as suggested by others cut down on the powder, use a nitro card, and I use an extra overshot card between the wad and shot.

Both will reach out to the impact area of a trap thrown clay bird. (I have not settled on any one combination for the various substitutes.

My standard plastic Black Powder 12ga shell is a AA with 55gr of FFFg, the same 12ga nitro card, 12ga fiber wads, and an full ounce of shot. The wad thickness is adjusted to make the proper column to produce a good folded crimp.

WEBAug 26, 2024 · Remington Gun Club or STS hull. CB0178-12 wad. 3cc of 3F APP (35 grains by weight) 7/8 oz of shot. This load will knock down any shotgun target. The secret to BP shotgun shells is to have enough powder in them so that the hull seals well and you do not get any blow by on the outside of the hull.

Fill case with APP to the point of about 1/8th inch compression, insert wad and seat bullet. She wont tell me what dipper to use so your on your own to find the right one to get the above.

WEBAug 31, 2024 · Purchase 14 Ga card over powder wads , 14 Ga fiber wads and 14 Ga. over shot wads from Ballistic Products. The brass shells have a larger than 16 ga opening than plastic hulls. Plastic wads can be used with smokeless powder only if you first insert a 14 Ga. over powder card wad snuggly over the powder then insert the plastic wad on top of it.

WEBPosted November 8, 2023. MagTec brass shell, 90gr of Goex Fg, nitro card, 1/2”fiber wad, nitro card, 1 1/4 oz of 4 or 5 shot, nitro card slight roll crimp to lock it all down. Sounds like a heavy shell, but it historically for 12G loaded with BP it’s midpoint or slightly under.
